The first edition of the Bizkaia PGAe Open will be played until Sunday at the Meaztgi Golf in La Aroboleda, a course owned by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, as the sixth scoring round of the PGA Spain Circuit. The Biscayan event, with a prize pool of 90,000 euros plus a bonus of 3,000 euros in the women’s and senior categories, will bring together 122 players on the field inaugurated in 2005 and designed by Severiano Ballesteros.
Bizkaia PGAe Open, schedule
The tournament is part of the PGA Spain Circuit, a competition that coincides with the 50th anniversary of PGAe, the Association of Golf Professionals in Spain. In parallel to the professional tournament this Wednesday, a Pro-Am event will be played in which amateur golfers will compete together with professional players.
The Bizkaia PGAe Open will be charitable. DalecandELA, a non-profit association founded by former golfer Jaime Lafita whose purpose is to make ALS visible and raise funds for research, will carry out different actions during the competition and will have an active presence in it.
The organizers of this sixth round of the PGA Spain Circuit will take the opportunity to remember the recently deceased Carlos Celles, PGA pioneer, and Ramón Barrenechea, President of the Biscayan Golf Federation.

David Salgado, from Madrid, leader of the 2022 Order of Merit after his victories in the Ciudad Real Match-Play and the XXXIV Spanish PGA Championship at La Faisanera, will seek a third victory in the Circuit at Meaztegi Golf, something that has only achieved Alfredo García Heredia in 2018 and 2019, before achieving his European Tour card.
The list of participants is completed by Jacobo Pastor, Toño Hortal. Alfonso Buendía, Juan Salama, Alex Esmatges, Constantin Schwierz, Gerard Piris, Dani Berná, Manu Ballesteros, José Luis Adarraga and Carlos Balmaseda together with Javier Ballesteros, the eldest son of Seve Ballesteros; Iñaki Alustiza, Eduardo Celles, Javier Otaegui and Álvaro Velasco, a European Tour classic.
In addition, the Meaztegi Golf will serve as a professional baptism for Eriz Rahm, teacher at the Larrabea course and brother of Jon, who has been number one in the world. The Biscayan makes his debut in the category in a course that his brother knows well for having developed several days of ‘Seve & Jon golf for kids’ there.
