PULLMAN– The Tru to the Cougs Podcast with Jamey Vinnick and Marcus Trufant powered by the Bleav Network was released Tuesday, with Vinnick and Trufant opining on what Washington State needs to do Saturday to get home against No. 15/18 Oregon’s vaunted pass protection.

The preview section on Oregon had a big focus on how well Oregon has pass blocked this season. The duo talked about what WSU needs to do to apply pressure while also relying on the back end to hold tight while the defensive line gets to the quarterback.

They also mentioned how poor Oregon has been on third down defensively, and how the Cougars can take advantage of that.

There were also some shout-outs to the pro Cougs that performed well, particularly Kansas City’s Jaylen Watson who had a 99-yard pick six on Thursday Night Football.

To start the show, Vinnick talked about the atmosphere in Martin and around Pullman for the blowout victory over Colorado State while Trufant noted he had to watch the game after the fact because fatherly duties took priority on Saturday.

In the second segment, the two talked about how well WSU rushed the passer, and the Cougar offense finally finding its stride, particularly in the first half where WSU scored 28 points. Trufant praised linebacker Daiyan Henleywho continues to be a force on the Cougar defense, in the pac-12 and nationally.

That led to another discussion about how well the Cougars have defended the pass this year, with Pro Football Focus ranking them fifth in coverage.

TRUFANT HAD JOINED the Seahawks by the time of WSU’s 55-16 blowout over Oregon in Autzen in 2003, but he was present for another marquee win over Oregon. In 2002, the No. 5 Cougars hosted the No. 15 Ducks and WSU prevailed in a game Trufant picked off a key fourth-quarter pass. He recounted that day and the vibe around that victory.

THIS WEEK FEATURED storylines galore around the Pac-12 and the two spoke about how good Washington looked against Michigan State and the news that Herm Edwards has been fired by ASU. There was further discussion around USC and the Trojans’ potent offense and the Ducks’ big victory over BYU.

Watson, linebacker Frankie Luvu and wide receiver River Cracraft received shout-outs for their big days in Week Two of NFL action and Vinnick also talked about both the WSU volleyball and soccer teams.

Marcus Trufant played at WSU from 1999-2002 and was an All-American in 2002 before being a first-round selection by the Seahawks in 2003. He spent 10 years in Seattle and was an All-Pro in 2007 before retiring in 2013. In 2015, he was named to the WSU Hall of Fame. Jamey Vinnick graduated from WSU in 2020 and has worked at since 2019, being CF. C’s man on the ground in Pullman since August of 2021.
